Welcome to the portfolio of Arielle Jay.

This website is a constant work in progress, a reflection upon myself, where I, too, am a work in progress. Nonetheless, you can be certain that the content upon this website will show you my various capabilities as I am an artist who does not specialize in only one aspect of design, but many. Please note that this website does not currently house a sizable amount of my writing and web coding samples and that such will be implemented at a much later date.

You are fully welcome to browse the content of this site, naturally. If you have questions about any specific project or page, or questions about this site in general, do not hesitate to contact me. These are some Logo & Graphic Designs I created when I did my contract work for Owls Web Design in 2015.

These are pages from my 2010 typographic book exploring various ways to lay out a purely typographic poster for a play or event. I was assigned How the Grinch Stole Christmas.

Typographic/info graphic calendar for a school project in 2010. Made primarily in InDesign, some graphics made in Illustrator.

I knew very little of astromony prior to the making of this calendar. This calendar was a huge pleasure to make for not only did I learn an entirely new scientific topic, however I had the opportunity of converting my gained knowledge into informative diagrams. Certain astronomy topics were strategicallyplaced with a specfic month where the astronomical event would typically occur in the year. Other topics, such as the big bang theory and the death of a star, were placed in areas that had a symbolic meaning. Example; the first month of the year for the birth of the universe and the last month of the year for the death of a star.

Not pictured here are the bottom halves of each calendar page. Each bottom half of the page consisted of the a single month of calendar itself, all numbers designed in a non-traditional calendar system, with special denotations for each quarter of the moon in each month.

The calendar itself was primarily in blue and yellow. For colder months, the overall page was designated blue, and the peek months of the summer were designated yellow, creating a general linear gradient from blue to yellow to blue again.

Monstrosity - Spring 2012

This series of images all contain one single theme: monstrosity. In learning the various traditional print-making processes, I was tasked with choosing a single theme that was vague enough to explore over various illustrative methods and would yield a large scope of angles.

Overall, this project was a huge learning experience, both in traditional print-making methods and also the multiple angles one could approach the theme of monstrosity with.

Further information about the illustrations themselves can be viewed under the cut.

Photographs of the photographer in action.

Nature photography taken by myself over the years. The photos were taken at one of the following places of San Diego, California (which photos listed in parenthesis): City Heights (the sunset, the moon, the purple rose bud, and the argiope spider), Balboa Park (the lotus and the frog), San Ysidro (the sparrows in the puddle, and the floral cluster), and Chula Vista (the falcon and the octopus).

Various photos taken by me over time where the focus is on the left side of the frame.

When my friend’s little sister was going to celebrate her 5th birthday, he wanted to get her a Barbie. Since refurbishing old Barbies is sort of a hobby of mine, I offered to fix up a Barbie rescued from a local Thrift Store and throw in a doll I had already fixed up (pictures of the dolls as they were originally acquired shown above along with their final appearance as they were sent off for this little girl’s birthday party). What I also threw in was a hand-crafted box designed to contain the two dolls.

The box was created from scratch by myself using black matt board, decorative paper, ph neutral glue and an acrylic clear gel to give the box a shine and finished appearance. The box itself is constructed in the fashion of how one would make a clam shell box, with the modification of one of the clam shell sides being purposefully glued to the spine. The box’s surface was completed with minimal embellishments to customize it for a 5 year old little girl.

Overall, the feel I wanted to capture with this box was to keep in mind that not only is it directed for a little girl who loves the color pink, however keeping it open-ended appearance-wise in such sophistication that this box could be re-purposed for many things as this little girl grows up into adulthood. This is a keepsake box intended for Asul.
